This year, Ninja Nation is Partnering with Tough Mudder! Tough Mudder is all about teamwork and overcoming obstacles. They hold mud runs and obstacle course events for adults every year, and this year they have two brand new Tough Mudder Kids courses! The Mighty Mudder is for 8-12 year olds, and the Mini Mudder is for 5-7 year olds.
Last week, Coach K-- the new head coach at Ninja Nation Huntersville--gave some tips on conquering the Everest obstacle. Coach K is ranked 20th in the country in Spartan Racing, and he’s the Reigning North American Age Group Champion in the 3k, and this week he has some exercises to prepare our members for the Kiss of Mud obstacle.
The Kiss of Mud will have athletes crawl on their stomachs through deep mud. Coach K had three tips on getting through it:
1: Get Low! You want to get all the way down onto your stomach.
2: Chicken wings out! Instead of using your hands, put your elbows out to the sides like chicken wings and crawl forward on your forearms.
3: Use your legs! Your arms can’t do all the work. Remember to push yourself forward with your lower body.
To get strong for this obstacle, Coach K recommends working your core and your back. Do your pullups and pushups, and add in some hanging knee raises (hang by your hands from a bar and bring your knees to your chest).
If you want to simulate the Kiss of Mud in one of our arenas, you can try crawling across our airbags. Just get a coach’s permission to make sure you aren’t crawling under anyone.
There will be a Tough Mudder Kids event in Colorado on July 24th and 25th, and one in Dallas on November 6th and 7th. We want to see our ninjas crush those courses!
